Emily & Clayton’s Birmingham Wedding

Emily & Clayton’s was the first wedding I’ve photographed at Covenant Presbyterian Church, which is the church where I got married 18 years ago and where my kids attended preschool. It’s such a special place to our family and being there felt like coming home. From the lovely hand calligraphy on the invitations, to Emily’s gorgeous ring and the belted tulle layer of her dress…everything was simply gorgeous. After the ceremony I had the privilege of capturing this beautiful couple at Railroad Park with the city skyline rising behind them just before sunset, and ending the night at B&A Warehouse. There was an amazing team of vendors, including wedding gown by Olia Zavozina and Bridesmaids dresses by Monique Lhuillier from Carriage House Weddings, floral design by Lillie’s, and cakes by Edgar’s Bakery…just to name a few. Here are the images to tell the rest of their wedding day story.

Kristen + Jon

My kids started school today, so it’s time to get caught up on the blog! I love them being home for summer and being on a more relaxed schedule; but it always slows down my workflow a bit. Since the days are flying by all too quickly and they grow up so fast, I try to take more time in the summer to soak them up and make memories together. I can’t believe I already have a 5th grader and a 1st grader! Before I know it they’ll be going to college and getting married! And, speaking of married…

I had the privilege of photographing Kristen and Jon’s gorgeous wedding, as the second shooter for my sweet and talented friend Jessica Wright. Amidst our extremely rainy summer, we were thrilled to be blessed with sunshine! Thank you to Jessica for asking me to shoot with her, and to Kristen and Jon for allowing me to share in their sweet celebration. Everything was just perfect and Kristen and Jon were all smiles, all day!

Love that they could get a birds eye view of their guests from this loft where they had dinner alone together.

I was taking this shot and couldn’t help but notice the expressions of Kristen’s mom and bridesmaids in the background, so I had to get a shot focused on their faces too!

Bridal Portraits at Shoal Creek Golf Club

Last fall, my good friend, Stacy Richardson, and I photographed Abbie’s bridal session. We had a fabulous time, roaming around the prestigious Shoal Creek Golf Club that has hosted several PGA events here in Birmingham. It was a perfect afternoon and Abbie was a vision, surrounded by gorgeous fall color and amazing golden light. Not surprisingly, she attracted alot of attention from the late afternoon golfers, since she was not in the usual golf attire of a skirt and spikes! Her dress was magnificent with it’s unique lace and peplum waist; and it was so sweet that Abbie wore her mom’s veil as the finishing touch.

Here are some of my favorites from our afternoon together.

Birmingham Weddings Magazine winter/spring issue [Heather Durham Photography]

I posted a few weeks back that I photographed an editorial piece for the 2013 winter/spring issue of Birmingham Weddings Magazine. It’s always fun to see your work in print. I had a great time working with the fantastic team who put it together. Be sure to try Erica’s edamame hummus. It’s a pretty, delicious and healthy snack! Look for the issue on newsstands now.
