My daughter, Olivia, LOVES Taylor Swift. She is a huge fan and has begged and pleaded for months and months for me to take her to a concert. She didn’t know it, but the plan had been in the works since early June. My friend Allison and I had talked about taking our girls and were working on getting tickets for last leg of the RED tour, in Nashville. It would be an easy trip and a fun place to take our girls to see her. Allison and her husband were able to find the tickets and we were holding on to them, hoping for it to be a surprise by checking them out of school on the day of the concert.
BUT…since my daughter kept asking to go and checking online for tickets daily, I finally decided we needed to have the big reveal early, to maintain both our sanities. So, Allison and I took our girls to Dreamcakes, our local cupcake bakery, to get a “treat” after school one day. The “treat” had been called ahead and was waiting in a box for each of them. When they opened the boxes, they found RED velvet cake cupcakes and one had “Taylor” writtin on the top and the other had “Swift”. They were going to Nashville! I think their squeals of joy could be heard all over Edgewood! Now they just had to wait one month for the big night! In the meantime, lots of planning was done for their posters and outfits.
That night finally arrived this weekend, and I can honestly say I’ve never seen my daughter so excited and full of anticipation. She was giddy and it brought me lots of joy to watch her take it all in! In case you haven’t made it to a Taylor Swift show with your daughter yet, I highly recommend it! This talented, 22 year old musician sold out three shows at the Bridgestone Arena, which holds 14,000 people! Do the math…that’s 42,000 fans. Wow! She is a fantastic live performer and really connects with her audience. It was an amazing show.
We were hurrying to grab dinner and get to the show, so there wasn’t much time for all of the mother-daughter photos I had hoped for, but I’ll always remember it as a really fun night with my 10 year old! I did take some images in the concert using my long telephoto lens, pushing it for all it would give me with my working distance! So, I’ll share those with you and a few of our quick Instagram/iPhone pics too. Hope you enjoy! And, maybe if you didn’t get to experience the show, you will at least feel like you did.
In the hotel lobby headed on our way to dinner and the concert.
All dressed up and ready to go!
Thanks to the nice guy who took this photo of us after dinner.
The arena was a sea of LED signs…and so many creative ones!
Ed Sheeren opened for Taylor. He had an accident the night before resulting in stitches in his hand, but he did a good job despite his injury.
Ed Sheeren kept making Taylor laugh. He must be a funny guy.
Rascal Flatts were a surprise guest!
Olivia was able to catch up with another friend after the concert!
And since our trip started off with a cupcake, it was only fitting to end it one since the original GiGi’s was right down the street from our hotel!
And here’s some iPhone/Instagram shots from the night…even us moms were “Feelin 22”!
