Music Inspired Fashion Shoot, Nashville TN

I get so excited for opportunities to shoot personal projects, and this one that has been spinning around in my head ever since moving to Nashville. As soon as I mentioned it to my talented friends Kerri Bunn and Mary Beth Wetzel, they were on board. As creatives, we are usually busy with client work and don’t have time to shoot what inspires us personally, but when we do find a morsel of time, we jump on it.

After moving to Nashville from Birmingham, I realized very quickly that people who aren’t from here do not have an accurate idea of what locals wear to music events. Their perception is that everyone in Nashville wears stonewashed denim, western bedazzled shirts, cowboy boots and cowboy hats to everything. So, to address that misconception our team pulled together a shoot from high-end Nashville boutiques to tell the story of fashion for music events from a local’s perspective.

I’m thrilled to finally share this shoot inspired by music and photographed at a Nashville indie recording studio. Side note: I have an old RUN DMC t-shirt just like the new one used in our shoot…I bought mine years ago…it’s faded and old and I love it…and sometimes I get to wear it if my daughter isn’t already wearing it herself. It’s tricky.

Many thanks to these amazing Nashville and Franklin boutiques who partnered with us on this shoot.

Rachel & Alex’s Downtown Nashville Engagement Session

I had fun getting to know these two on a perfect fall day. We started their Engagement Session at Centennial Park, because several months ago, Alex flew in town, surprised Rachel there and asked her to marry him on the steps of the Parthenon. From there we made our way to the Shelby pedestrian bridge downtown. Rachel won’t be living in Nashville after they get married, so she wanted to capture this beautiful city in their images since it’s an important piece of their story.

ANNOUNCING Fall 2017 Portrait Mini Sessions!

I love getting back into the roots of my business every fall. Kids & Family Portraits is how it all started for me over 14 years ago, so every year in the fall I offer Portrait Mini Sessions…both in Franklin, TN and Birmingham, AL. It allows me to reconnect with so many clients whose kids I’ve watched grow up though my lens as they’ve helped grow my business. I also love the opportunity it gives me to meet new families. Portrait Minis are a great value, because it’s the only time during the year that the print minimum is waived and 5 digital files are included with the session, helping you easily update your family photos and profile pictures, and YES get Christmas cards checked off the list!

Online booking opens Tuesday, August 1st at 8:00 AM sharp. For more information and to book online, go to the website.

Here are some highlights from last year’s fall minis…

Fall Break Fun – Exploring Nashville and the Music City Murals

It’s my kids’ first Fall Break living in Nashville, so my 13 year old daughter had two of her Birmingham friends up for the long weekend. Yesterday afternoon we decided to do a little exploring. I gave them a 3 hour tour to some of my favorite spots, finding murals as we made our way through Music City. I love this town! There’s always something fun to do and see!

Here’s a few of the shots I took along our way and I’ll share the locations, just in case you are planning a visit to Nashville soon…

House of Blues Studios | 518 East Iris Drive

hdp-nashvillemurals-17hdp-nashvillemurals-21I saw this mural and immediately heard the intro to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Crossfire. It took me back to a day when my husband and I were in our 20s, before kids, when we test drove a Jeep to that song…really loud…sunroof open…windows rolled down. We bought that Jeep. Maybe just for its good sound system. hdp-nashvillemurals-22hdp-nashvillemurals-10hdp-nashvillemurals-12

12 South Flower Market and October Pumpkin Patch | 2501 12th Avenue South hdp-nashvillemurals-46hdp-nashvillemurals-45hdp-nashvillemurals-40hdp-nashvillemurals-28hdp-nashvillemurals-37hdp-nashvillemurals-43

Also in 12 South area beside Green Pea Salon |
2900 12th Ave South

(There’s also a really colorful flower wall across from this one,
but the sun was way too bright on it to shoot at the time we were there.)

Also on 12 South in alley next to Draper James
(Reese Witherspoon’s Clothing Boutique)

The Gulch | Between Music Row & Downtownhdp-nashvillemurals-56

East Nashville on the side of the Joyner & Hogan Printers building | 600 Main Street

Printers Alley | Downtown Nashville between Third and Fourth Avenues,
running from Union Street to Commerce Street.

Note: I don’t suggest doing this one after dark with kids.
Best done in the afternoon before the night life picks up. 😉

Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge | Shelby Street

I love this spot because you get great 360 degree views of downtown Nashville, Nissan Stadium Home of the Titans Football Team, Ascend Amphitheater and the Cumberland River, Riverfront Park and Cumberland Park.

This brings us to the end of our afternoon exploring Nashville. We were running out of daylight and ready for dinner. There are many more murals all over the city, but we’ll save those for another day and later post.

Bailey’s Senior Session

I’m a little behind on blogging, but this one is worth the wait. I’m super excited to finally post Bailey’s senior session. We were blessed with amazing rim light on this gorgeous ginger. Congratulations to Bailey for pledging a great sorority at Auburn! She’s got a fun four years ahead of her! (MUAH: Brittany Massey)

Flake Girls Mini Session

Stay tuned for Birmingham Fall Mini Session dates to be announced this week. Limited availability and online  booking through the website. Here’s one of my favorite sessions from last fall…

Lisa and I have known each other for years and it’s aways a privilege and a pleasure to photograph the homes she designs. So, I was excited when she asked me to photograph her beautiful girls last fall. Not only are these blondies cute, they are super sweet too. Love what we captured in my favorite creek…
