I loved everything about this shoot and our amazing team. I’ve worked with Hair & Make Up Artist, Celine Russell, many times and it’s always a pleasure. Her work is flawless. This was my first time working with stylist, Mary Beth Wetzel and wow! Can’t wait to work with her again. She’s a mover, shaker and beautiful shoot maker! Getting the cover was just the cherry on top! Hollywood Beauty [Published April 2016 Birmingham Magazine]

I loved everything about this home in the coveted Hollywood neighborhood of Homewood, Alabama and featured in the April 2016 Issue of Birmingham Magazine. Set perfectly on a corner lot, every angle had pretty architectural design features to behold. And, when you walk in the door you are greeted by a light filled, majestic, spiral staircase. Of course, my favorite detail of the interior design were all the little pops of turquoise…from pillows to sliding doors to cabinets and art. There was just a touch of it in every room.

Take yourself on a tour of this amazing home through the images below…

Twin Construction Owner’s Homewood Home [Published in Birmingham Magazine, October 2015 Issue]

I love shooting homes for Birmingham Magazine and getting ideas for my own home in the process! It was a treat to photograph one of the Twin Construction owner’s personal home in Homewood for the October issue. I loved it’s family friendly floor plan, clean lines and neutral color palette. Men’s Fashion Shoot (Published in Birmingham Magazine, June 2015)

I loved getting to work with stylist and writer, Kerri Bunn, on the June 2015 Men’s Fashion issue of Birmingham Magazine. Kerri and I have worked together before on editorial stories and it’s always a pleasure!

Because this story was about men’s beard grooming, I didn’t want the images to be about the clothes, or eye color, or hair color, but more about the styling and texture of the beards. So, I decided to edit the images as warm tone black and whites.

This was such a fun shoot because the guy models really bought into our vision. We wanted them to play to the camera with their personalities and that’s exactly what they did. We laughed a lot.

It was such a fun surprise that two of the images made it on the cover!

The Clegg Farm (Published in Birmingham Magazine, June 2015)

Days like this one, when my job consists of spending a beautiful May morning riding around on a Polaris at a private farm shooting for Birmingham Magazine…well, I just want to pinch myself. What could be better than being outside, meeting new people and getting the grand tour of a well designed farmhouse with sprawling views of the lake and hunting land? Not much.

The Clegg’s home was designed by the talented team at Adams-Gerndt with interiors by Defining Home. And it’s no surprise that I loved the deep teal chairs in the living room. Yeah, I wanted to take those home.

Come along with me and take a tour of this refined rustic and peaceful retreat…

Birmingham Magazine Cover Shot, Mercedes Marathon Story [Published]

As I’ve mention before, I love editorial work. I think it’s because I spent years as an Art Director for a magazine publishing company, hiring photographers, concepting ideas and designing layouts. But then, after working with so many photographers, the photography bug hit me and I completely switched gears. However, I think being on both sides has really helped me understand the complete editorial process better. And now I love working with the art directors and editors to give them the photographs they need to tell their stories..

I was excited when Birmingham Magazine asked me to shoot the Mercedes Marathon feature for the February 2015 issue. This city and our running community, is so proud of the Mercedes Event; and it’s one that has grown tremendously since the runners crossed the very first Mercedes Marathon finish line at Lynn Park 13 years ago.

The images for this shoot evolved over several weeks. First, I had the privilege of spending a half day at The Bell Center Early Intervention Program, seeing the amazing kids, teachers, volunteers and programs this race benefits. Then, I followed the Birmingham Track Club, jumping in and out of my car with my camera as they ran all over Homewood and Mountain Brook, on two early and cold Saturday mornings in December. Later, I enjoyed getting to meet the people and inspiration behind organizing this incredible event. Paul Sotherland is a runner and a Dad whose son Matt has downs syndrome. Out of a desire to encourage Matt and be his health advocate, came the idea for a race that would benefit his early intervention program, at what is now The Bell Center. Valerie McLean, owner of The Trak Shak, helped Paul with his training and became inspired by Paul and Matt’s story to organize what is now the Mercedes Marathon. You can read the full story “Running This Town” here.

Every time I shoot for Birmingham Magazine I learn a little more about The Magic City, where I have lived all my life (except for college and an internship), and it makes me love it even more. The icing on the cake for photographing this story was that my image made the cover! I love my job and I love this city. It just keeps getting better and better.
