Highlights from 2017 [Birmingham, AL] Fall Portrait Mini Sessions

Every year I enjoy heading back to my hometown of Birmingham for my annual weekend(s) of Fall Portrait Mini Sessions. It’s fun to recconect with loyal clients who, over the years, have become friends as I’ve watched their children grow up through my lens. I also enjoy meeting new clients. Fall Mini Session dates and online booking is announced each year the first week of August, so mark your calendars to grab your spot. Here are some of my favorite images from the Birmingham sessions. And, you can see the Franklin, TN Mini Sessions here. HDP-Dennis-4_-WEB.jpg

Meri Margaret & Mallory

I have had the pleasure of photographing these adorable sisters since they were babies. This session was a little more about capturing Mallory at this age, since her older sister has had many more opportunities. 😉 They are such sweet girls and I love it that Meri Margaret always makes an effort to speak to me at church and at the school when I’m picking up my son. What a cutie pie! Fun parents too!

Mary Kathryn & Andrew, Engaged!

I met Mary Kathryn and Andrew last year at the highest point overlooking Lake Martin. I was having my 40th birthday weekend at the lake and my friend Jennifer and I went to the overlook to check it out since we had never been before. Of course my camera came along. As we were standing there admiring the view of the lake, a couple walked up from the hiking trail. We started up a conversation and they told us they were students at Auburn. It was one of those times when you just like someone the moment you meet them. I could tell they were dating, so I asked them if they wanted me to take a quick photo of them and email to them. It was late afternoon light that I just couldn’t let go to waste. 🙂 I took the photo, we chatted a little more and then went on our way. When I got back home I emailed them the photo. That was it. Then, almost exactly one year later I received a phone call from Mary Kathryn letting me know they were engaged and she wanted me to shoot their wedding! Yeah, situations like this are just what I refer to as “a God thing”. I just love how He orchestrates circumstances and people to be in each other’s paths….and this time it was a literal path!

Here are some of my favorite images from their engagement session at Aldridge Gardens. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding this June in Auburn!

HDP-111_WEB.jpgThere just happened to be a wedding going on that day in the gardens and this sign was hung, so we took advantage of it!

The Sheffer Family

Every fall I photograph this family and the boys own me every single time. They are adorable, imaginative and spunky. In addition to all that cuteness, they have amazing hair! If you haven’t met them on the blog before, meet Luke, Nate and Sebastian…oh and their mom and dad, of course…

The Lanier Family

Amy contacted me months in advance to schedule her fall family session at Aldridge Gardens, and somehow we both missed that afternoon was the Native American festival! We drive up to the gardens and the parking lot is so full we have to park down the street. Now, I’ve encountered busy times at both gardens, shooting around proms, weddings and the buzz of other photographers with families on a pretty day. But, this was REALLY busy with people everywhere and there were also little blue strings tied on many of the trees and bushes as part of the festival. Nice! So it was my job to dodge all these people and blue strings while photographing a family of six! I love a good challenge…and very shallow depth of field!

I enjoyed my adventure with the sweet Lanier family! It was a lot of fun and we certainly had some good laughs. In fact, I posted one shot on the proofing gallery of their kids feeding the ducks with another set of random kids who had decided to be in our shot. I told them they could use that one for their Christmas card and shock everyone with their newly adopted children! 🙂 Needless to say I’ll be noting the date if the Native American Festival in my calendar next year! Here’s some highlights from our afternoon together…I don’t think anyone would be able guess what all was going on around us!

I see a little blue string in this next shot! Nothing a little photoshop can’t fix in the finished print.

The Ledbetter Family

Beautiful light…Beautiful color…Beautiful family (inside & out)! I’ve known the sweet Ledbetter family for years through our children being in school, dance, sports and Bible study together. Marianne mentioned to me last year doing some family portraits for them because they hadn’t had any done since Matthew, their youngest, was a baby. We finally put it on the calendar for this fall and I enjoyed spending a beautiful afternoon with them at Aldridge Gardens.

The Lanier Family

Yesterday I photographed the Lanier family at Aldridge Gardens. Somehow we missed the fact that the Native American Festival was going on, so the gardens were very crowded. There was Native American dancing, craft tables, and blue strings tied everywhere! Needless to say, I was having to carefully compose my images so as not to get random strangers and blue strings in the Lanier family’s photos! We had a few good laughs about it!

What a beautiful family, inside and out! I enjoyed playing with these adorable kids!

Emily, Kathryn and Rebekah

One of the big perks to my job is meeting new people in my community. I was so excited when Millie called me to photograph her girls, Emily, Kathryn and Rebekah because Emily is heading to Auburn in the fall and the twins, Kathryn and Rebekah are in high school at Vestavia. I love it when clients realize the importance of capturing family all under one roof before the college years. I’ve photographed baby and toddler twins, but never had the opportunity to photograph high school age twins so it was a real treat. I enjoyed spending the afternoon at Aldridge Gardens with these sweet girls!

Palin, Clarkie and Kathleen

I’ve been on a family vacation for a week, so now I’m trying to get caught up on my blogging. Whew! Lots to do!

Rachel and I have been talking photos for a while since our husbands work together. We finally had her session a few weeks ago and the weather was just perfect. Then, when Clarkie and Kathleen showed up in Matilda Jane outfits I was beyond excited. They were super cute; and since my daughter would not wear Matilda Jane because she thought she was “too old” (fashion opinions showed up way early at my house), I have to admire everyone else’s children in their cute clothing line!

Kathleen, the baby, wasn’t so sure about being barefoot. Guess she hadn’t gotten her “summer feet” yet, but we worked through it and she quickly forgot about it. The one thing she didn’t forget was wanting to keep mommy in sight at all times; but her sweet big sister and brother helped with that too and she got lots of love from them. I could tell right away that these siblings have such a sweet relationship. I loved being able to capture it. Here are a few images from our afternoon together…

Boys will be boys…

Looking for Momma…
