Classic Blue Wedding in the south

Thankfully, Fall 2020 was a very busy season for me. The weddings I had booked for spring and summer 2020 were moved to Fall, so when I wasn’t behind my camera shooting or on the road traveling, I was behind my computer editing. I got very behind on blogging, even with my assistant helping. So, I am going to try and play catch up these next two months.

Sloane contacted me over one year before her wedding. We spoke several times on the phone about the details and how important timeless (not trendy) photography was to her. I love when I hear how much a bride values photography as one of the most important investments for her wedding day. We had a kindred spirit about classic story telling and editing. I told her, if classic color and black and white editing is good enough for the royal families, it’s good enough for my brides too! She agreed.

Sloane’s original wedding date was April 18, 2020, right when the global pandemic COVID19 starting hitting the United States. Ashley of Magnolia Vine Events worked tirelessly to reschedule this sweet bride’s day, not once, but twice! Sloane and Brock had a small ceremony on their original day and then scheduled their full wedding and reception on August 29, 2020. I wasn’t able to shoot their short (but sweet) 1st ceremony in Birmingham due to the Stay at Home Order here in Tennessee, but I wanted to celebrate with them somehow. So, I sent them disposable cameras to use for a fun retro way to capture their day of memories, then did a long distance FaceTime Shoot the next week from my home office in Franklin, TN with them in their new home together in Vestavia Hills, AL. You can see that shoot here and my story on how to creatively celebrate your original wedding date published in Southern Bride magazine. Sloane and Brock’s long-awaited big wedding day celebration finally arrived in August and what a beautiful day it was! We had a sprinkling of rain at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens at the beginning of portraits which was gone almost as soon as it arrived. We took that little shower as a traditional sign of good luck. We also did a Nightcap Session where I followed them from the reception to where they were staying for the night so I could grab a few images of them arriving in the beautiful floor to ceiling marble lobby of the historic Elyton Hotel in downtown Birmingham. I’ll let the images tell you the rest of the story… It was perfect.
