Meet My Intern, Abbie!

HDP_2545

Did you hear it? Me singing from the rooftops that I found an intern?!  And, she comes to me with a passion for photography and already knowing a lot of the software I use! She’s a dream and I love having her in the office/porch/coffee shop/wherever makes us feel happy and creative. So, I want to introduce you to this California girl who’s helping me put the spring back in my step.

Abbie is from Los Angeles and came all the way from sunny California just to go to school at The University of Alabama. Um, yeah, Roll Tide! This BAMA girl’s dad played football at UCLA and for the Kansas City Chiefs, so a good football team was kindof a big deal in her college decision. I think she made a good choice!

The first week Abbie started working with me, I sent her some questions to answer so we could all get to know her better…

What are you studying at Alabama? Restaurant & Hospitality Management with a concentration in Event Planning

Where are you from? Rancho Palos Verdes, California, a small beach city outside of Los Angeles.

How do people describe you? Outgoing, spontaneous, determined and personable

Most unique thing about you? I’m very action and detail oriented.

Strongest personality quality? My determination to get things right (Yep! I agree!)

Interesting fact about you and your family: My dad, sister, brother and me are all scuba diving certified.

Why do you want to learn more about photography? I want to learn more about photography because of how much it interests me. I have only been in the industry for a year and the things I have learned up to this point are far beyond my imagination. I can’t wait to add more to my knowledge about this art.

If you could go one place with your camera, where would it be? Greece or the Amalfi Coast in Italy

If we hopped in your car right now, what would be on your radio or on bluetooth? It would be country music, preferable Tim McGraw or Kasey Musgraves.

What is your favorite hobby other than photography? Planning parties or playing with my dogs.

Favorite food? Any dish with salmon involved.

Favorite restaurant? Cheesecake Factory

Favorite TV show? Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Favorite movie? Depends on my mood, but either Taken or Legally Blonde.

If you could trade lives with someone for a day, who would it be? Definitely Serena Van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) of Gossip Girl. I would like to experience the New York City lifestyle. But, only for a day because it’d be way too hectic!

Thing you are most afraid of? Failure.

Biggest accomplishment? Graduating high school and getting accepted into my dream school. (Again, can I get a big Roll Tide?! )

What would your perfect day include? Getting breakfast in bed with a good cup of coffee, a good workout, lake time with the puppies, maybe a little bit of shopping, a mani/pedi, an engagement session with a gorgeous couple on the lake, a nice dinner with my boyfriend, and then a night out with the girls.

Who inspires you most? Amy & Jordan Demos or Jasmine Star

What inspires you most? Never capturing any two relationships the same.

Yep, we are going to get along just fine! She had me at country music, Law & Order and salmon.

Among many other things, Abbie is helping me get caught up on the blog, so you’ll see your sessions and weddings go up a little more quickly. And, she’ll be coming along on a shoots as her schedule permits. I’m so thankful and grateful to have her on board at Heather Durham Photography!

For me, inspiration and creativity happens outside the walls of my office; so as I mentioned, we are currently enjoying the weather and working on my porch. When the weather gets cooler, I’m taking her on a tour of Birmingham coffee shops to get her more familiar with my hometown. (And, I’m sure we’ll document it on Instagram.) Hopefully we’ll run into you peeking out from our laptops over a cup of Joe. And, maybe I’ll become an adult and finally learn to like coffee for more than just how it smells.
